SDSL

SDSL is the symmetric version of ADSL where the upload speed and the download speed are the same. If your business has a need for greater upload speed, such as VPN concentration at a head office, or you are running an FTP service, then SDSL is the right product for you. SDSL is only available in locations where the local exchange has been enabled, and these exchanges are relatively few in number. BT has not been enabling exchanges for SDSL for some time now and does not plan to restart. SDSL speeds are 512kbps, 1Mbps and 2 Mbps; then multiples of 2Mbps via bonded circuits.

SDSL Differences

When ordering SDSL a dedicated PSTN line is installed by BT as part of the process. This is the rationale behind users signing up for 12 month contracts. Users are not assigned a number on the line as it is solely used for the SDSL service. In order to connect, you will need an SDSL router. Gconnect can provide a managed router as part of the service. It is possible to bond multiple SDSL lines, but special routers are required at the client site. As part of the bonding service, Gconnect monitors the status of the bonded interface on your router and takes corrective action if required.
